How To Find Book Publishing Services
Author: Terence Tam
Every good writer knows that writing a book is one thing but publishing is another thing entirely. There are several publishing houses out there but how do you find them? There are two ways to find book publishing services, but before you begin your search for book publishers, you need to figure out the following:
- Do you want to publish an electronic book? (e-book)
- Do you want to publish your book the old fashioned way? (hard copy prints)
- How much do you want to spend?
Answering the above questions will help you determine what kind of publishing service you should be looking out for. The two ways to find publishing service are:
1) The Internet
Thank goodness for modern technology, with the internet you have information at your fingertips, and all you have to do is search for it online.
With the internet, you get to sit in the comfort of your home and search for whatever information you are looking for. We all hope a simple click – ‘search’ would get the job done, but knowing the vast publishing services that are available in the web space, you need to prepare and do your homework. You will find there are publishing services that have different packages to accommodate your budget, even publishing services that will help you publish and market your books effectively and some would even still allow you to retain the ownership of the rights to your book(s).
A Tip to find a good publication service from among crowed is from the testimonies of people who have published with that company. Take time to read the feedback and reviews of the publishing service to understand if this is the kind of service you are hoping to get. After much research you should find the Book publishing services that will suit your publishing needs to a T.
2) The Old Fashioned Way
This is quite simple really, all you need to do is ask questions. You can ask people who are published writers and they are sure to tell you all you need to know.
Remember to look around you, head on down to your local independent book stores, and browse through the books on the shelves. Look for the books that are selling, and note down the local publishers name and give them a call.
Remember you don’t have to commit to any publisher just yet, again the word is ‘RESEARCH’. Don’t think that great writers like Danielle Steel, Steven King, John Grisham etc ever had it easy, they also had to do their research and come to think of it, these guys didn’t have it easy because they didn’t have simple access to information like we do now.

If you goal is to include black and white images, you will get better quality by using the color option. Both paper quality and printing process used for their B&W books will not produce the same quality image you’ll get with the color option.
Unfortunately lulu does not have an option to just include a few pages of image quality pages into an otherwise print quality book. You need to choose one or the other. Thumb through some paperback fiction print books. Find one where they did not insert a new page for the author photo and you will have some idea as to what quality images will be in such books.
It depends. There are different types of editors. There are those that do editing for grammar, fact checking, and those that suggest storyline changes. THe ones that suggest storyline changes. Editing for storyline changes (can’t remember the official terminology) is the most expensive type of editing. If you want all types of editing, it can run you upwards of $1,000 if you hire a quality editing service, and you certainly don’t want just anyone editing your book, so make sure that person has experience and verifiable proof that they can do the job, and it’s even better if any books they’ve edited any commercially published books (not self-published).
sure, i self-published a book through lulu.com
they are completly free.
after you have published, and at any point in the future, you can buy an isbn, or marketing services.

Is it possible to self publish a book without any upfront payments for publishing and marketing services?
What websites can I use for free book publishing services?
lulu.com is already found…what else? i am aware that there is more than one and xlibris has to be paid for.
What website offers the best free book publishing services?
Editorial services? When publishing a book, what is the Editors job?
they just give suggestions on how the story should go, right?
or grammar correction?
Can I use grayscale in self-publishing services, or does it cost extra?
Self-publishing and book-printing services such as Lulu have two color options: Black/white and color. Color is often a lot more expensive. So does grayscale usually fall under black and white, since it just uses black ink, or do I have to use black and white dots/pixels to create varying shades of gray?
