Can one read for a living? I also want to write books. How does one get a start in the literary world?
I’ve been laid off from my job of 9 years, and have an opportunity to change my life. I’ve written creatively since the 2nd grade (I’m 36) and want to write. I’m also a book hound and read several books a month. I’ve been told my whole life that I can’t do what I want for a living so I never tried; I dutifully listened to my parents to my own detriment. How do I get into the literary world (reading, writing, proofreading, editing, etc.) after all this time? I wasn’t “allowed” to get an English or journalism degree because my conservative parents said I couldn’t get a job with those ( I have a BS in psychology). Any of you have parents that squashed your dreams until they almost died? How do I go about pursing my dream and still pay my bills? I’m looking for legit home businesses that would allow me my own schedule so I can write but most are ripoffs. Have any of you ever gone through this?
How did Helen Keller write books and letters and such things?
How did Helen Keller write books and letters and such things? I have found that she was born blind and deaf, and I can see no such way that she could ever have learned to write with such conditions.
Writing long books does not require a great education. It requires two things: perseverance and dedication.
You are born with the ability to write. College english classes simply enhance the ability.
Give writing a try! I’d reccommend you upload your writing on a website such as http://www.fictionpress.com to get honest feedback, and wrote a ‘practice novel’ or two before you tried to get published. The first novel is always a learning process. You also may want to look into NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, which takes place in November. Their website is http://www.nanowrimo.org .
I look forward to seeing you around on the Internet!
She could write and stuff like that. She used the braille language that is designated for people who are blind and canno see anything. It was frustrating, but she was able to develop those skills.

Someone like you would need to write books in the fashion of Harry Potter. There are many many followers of these books and, if you don’t think so, just look at the questions on Yahoo Answers alone. Fiction needs to ring a person bell many times over. The novel needs to dwell into a person’s soul and make them realize that it’s only fiction, but it tends to give them a sense of deja vu and a compelling sense of familiarity, in that, they say to themselves “I’ve been there.”
Look at Frankenstein, Dracula… These books have been made into all sorts of variations in movies. All were made over and over again because people wanted more. This is why some authors created characters whom they used over and over again in difference scenarios. A good example would be the works of James Patterson and his Alex Cross character.
Do this and you’ve accomplished something. People will remember your name, your works. They’ll set up websites and groups in praise of your name and work. Then, you can sit back and say, “I’ve done it. I’ve created something that people want and will actually pay to get.”
You don’t want someone to tell you how to write. You want to learn. This way you write like YOU, not someone else. The libraries and bookstores are loaded with some great works that can teach a potential writer so very much. Use them.
Good luck!

How do you write books that has staying-power?
Can someone tell me how to write books that people will remember after they finish reading it? I’m reading so many books right now that I enjoy while I’m reading, but afterwards I find that it really didn’t affect my life at all and I forget it after a few days.
I don’t want my novels to be like that. Can anyone please help me? Nothing vague please.
Oh, and I only write fiction books, so I’m mainly looking for how to affect people through stories.
How do people write books? The author of Harry Potter must have been a really smart author to have written so?
many books. Are there classes you can take to learn how to write long books? I have taken all the required college English classes and some, so does this give me ability to write?
I know a gal who does not have a college degree and she proofreads all kinds of documents for grammar, spelling and syntax.
It’s part time work for a small publishing company nearby. When someone has something to be published sometimes they want it to be read over by someone with superior grammar and spelling and syntax.
She says it’s mostly lengthily brochures, instructional sheets for appliances and other short reads.
She loves it and it provides a few extra buck each month.
Try calling some printing shops or some small publishers near you.
