Cookbook Publishers
Soul Food Cookbook Trends Going High Tech
Author: Roy Primm
The soul food cookbook of today is going high tech fast. More and more continue to go from paper and ink to electronic. With the rising cost of manufacturing books the traditional way, due the high cost of labor, paper, ink and shipping, more soul food recipe publishers are moving toward publishing their content electronically. Known in the industry as ebooks, many predict they will change the publishing industry.
Many have said they’re already changing the industry by allowing more authors to self-publish their own books and bypass traditional publishing channels. “Now recipe authors can get their creations in front of their target market quicker and with less red tape and drama. Plus, they can do it for less money than if they had to go through the normal publishing grindstone, “claims one recipe book self-publisher from Miami, Florida.
Soul food cookbook authors and other southern food recipe authors can enjoy trying their hand at the publishing world without experiencing the mountain of potential rejection slips from traditional publishers. With budget tightening, many of the big publishers have limited resources to help new and upcoming recipe authors anyway. So, this new trend is a help to even big name publishers as well as the smaller ones. This ebook publishing trend can save traditional publishers the time of having to review mountains of books from potential authors and agents.
But most of all this new soul food cookbook trend will benefit the end user by giving them a wider selection of books to choose from. In addition they’ll have the convenience of getting them instantly downloaded to their computer instead of paying shipping cost or having to drive to a bookstore and purchase before enjoying it. This new ebook trend appears to be a win-win situation for everyone. I’ll continue to keep you informed of this new and changing publishing trend. Stay tuned!

morrisbooks.com is a vanity publisher, they make their living by charging the author rather than the customer! If anyone buys a book it’s gravy to them!
Save your money!
I’d choose the one with the best offer for you.
I’ve been involved in the cookbook fundraiser in a couple of different states.
The best bet is for you to find a local printer. Ask them if they’ll donate their services, or a discount for letting them put that they published the book in the book.
You might also check with the members of your organization. See if any of them have any connections.
Leftovers, not just reheated but reinventing different dishes form what you had. Another one that I was even thinking about is what can you “Cook” in a hotel room with just the Iron, think about that one
well, if you’re serious about it, and you have it properly written up & editing, with photos, etc. I would take it to a publishing company first. The worst they can do is deny you, then I would go ahead a make a site. Realistically, there’s millions of recipes on free sites already, and unless you are already know or accredited in this field it may be difficult for you to publish. Unless its full of unusual recipes, or you are a registered dietitian or something like that. Well, just my opinion anyways.
No publisher. But Kinko’s did a great job of copying onto cardstock and stiff paper for the pages, binding, and printing. Go to a UPS Store, Staples, Office Max, or one of those and ask them what they can do to bind a cookbook for you. They can give you costs and everything. You can probably even email them your final draft.
I think you’ll find that classic or comfort foods that we look back on now from different cultures and time periods were in fact the least expensive. These foods were accessible 9financially and geographically). This allowed them to be enjoyed and popularized by the masses.
That doesn’t mean that what was accessible to another culture or time period is accessible to you now. The wild game that would have been typical of feasts in the middle ages would be very expensive or difficult for you to get. If you are writing a book for home cooks, you should be upfront about the fact that you may not have access to wild African boar or goat at you average supermarket. Methods like using wood fired ovens or oven fire pits might not be practical. You could provide original recipes, but adapted for the modern, westernized home cook.
If your goal is to be accurate culturally and historically, steer towards presenting dishes that involve grains and vegetables. They are cheaper and easier to get than proteins and some fruits.
yes, you dont want some crazy parent suing you to get some extra bucks or for whatever other reason people do such things. i had a kids parents start problems with my highschool because a kid didnt want to be in the yearbook and there was a photo with him in a crowd and they got angry and started problems, even though you wouldnt know he was in the photo unless you looked for him.
If you want to publish with a traditional publisher and have the book available in stores, it is advisable to go through an agent.

Submitting cookbooks is a little different from novels. Nonfiction is done by proposals and marketing platforms. Your cookbook needs more than accurate, tasty meals, it will need target market and a reason why yet another cookbook is needed. Most cookbooks today also need nutrition guidelines.
There are a lot of articles about self publishing cookbooks, but you need to determine if this is what you want. Self published books are generally not availble in stores.
