How to Submit a Book Proposal For Publication
Some good tips and advice on how to submit a book proposal for publication
Many aspiring writers dream of seeing their name in lights or at least on the outside of a book jacket. Convinced that they have the greatest idea for a book, they hurriedly send an email to a publisher thinking that success is just around the corner. Of course, thatâs not how it works.

Blech, don’t submit to Focus on the Family- at least, not if you want anyone to respect your writing. I mean, these are the people who went around saying that Spongebob Squarepants promoted the “homosexual agenda.”
To my knowledge, many of the largest publishing houses have smaller offshoots that specialize in different areas, including Christian fiction. I’d contact the major publishing houses and see what they have.
christian Literary agents?
Does anyone know any good Christian Literary agents in
the mid west that has dealt with big name Christian
publishers?
Does anyone know any literary agents/publishers intrested in christian fiction manuscripts?
UK based writer with several manuscripts also looking for publishers intested in short stories, inspirational poetry. Anyone read – Purple hibiscus by Chiamanda Adiche or Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe- anyone know of any publishers looking for a new African voice out there?
Heyya, the personal beliefs of a literary agent don’t even figure into the picture. Any good agent can sell a first-rate manuscript to the big Christian publishers, so seek the best agent you can identify, rather than an agent who’s Christian or who specializes in Christian work.
How? Identify what Christian books are in the stores right now. Note the titles, authors’ names, and publishers.
Back home, spend some time doing online searches to determine which agents sold those books to those publishers. Those are the ones you’ll target.
Where can I publish an academic research paper on Christian Theology without a literary agent?
I’ve written an academic research paper on what a belief in Christianity entails; it’s about 15 pages long. As the next step, I’m trying to find a publisher that will accept an unsolicited paper and respond within the next month or so. What journals, columns, publishers, etc. might be willing to review this and respond quickly?
Try academic journals on the topic and magazines of a similar type. You don’t need an agent to submit work to most academic journals and even most magazines will accept non-solicited manuscripts, especially if you submit a query letter first.
You might also see if your academic institution has a theology department or faculty members with a theology background who could give you advice and recommend where you might submit it.
The Writer’s Market is a great source of information for writers because they list submission guidelines and contact info for thousands of publications, including some niche markets, including 28 pages of religious publications listed in the 2008 edition.
If you cannot get the paper accepted as scholarly research, you may reconsider rewriting it using your research but gearing it toward a more general audience on the topic (think magazine article versus scholarly journal)
You might also look for websites that accept electronic submissions so you can cut down on mail time and get a faster response.
Good luck!
How effective is ChristianManuscriptSubmissions.com? Christian Manuscript Submissions?
Does anyone have any personal experience or inside knowledge of the effectiveness of the online Christian Manuscript Submissions website to attract attention of publishers and literary agents (for my non-fiction sports book).
Hi there,
It seems to me that this is a reliable, trustworthy way of attracting agents. I don’t know how effective it is as the only means of attracting attention, though.
Cheers
