First you have to write well. They may be Christian, but they want to make money. Your words have to be worth buying.
To find a publisher:
Go to a bookstore. Find books like yours. Look inside the front pages to get the publishers’ websites. Follow their submission guidelines to the letter.
Look up websites of writers with work similar to your own. See if they mention who reps for them. A short polite mail asking if they can recommend an agent is not out of place. Do not tell them about your book, that’s seen as poor manners.
Obey YOG’S LAW: “Money flows TOWARD the writer.”
This means NEVER pay to get published or to enter contests or pay a fee-charging agent. NEVER. Obey Yog’s Law and you won’t get ripped off.
Go to the 808 section of your library which has all the books on writing. Read it. You need to know how the business works.
Above all — AVOID PublishAmerica! They wave the flag and praise Jesus and present themselves as Christian-friendly, but you won’t find a more heartless bunch of greedy blankety-blanks in the whole publishing industry. Just Google their name + “scam” to read the horror stories. They are a print mill, not a publisher.
Here’s the report of a Christian writer who fell for their bait and switch:

I mention this because YOU are in their prime target market. Until you learn more on how publishing works you can be ripped off by these and similar sharks.
This online writers group has a fine forum for inspirational writers. They can help you far better in the long term than posting questions here on Yahoo.

The Absolute Write forums are FREE to join, run by pros, and everyone is friendly. The man who wrote that website page above is a member. He frequents the Bewares and Background check area, warning other newbies against PA.
Good luck!
1. Be sure you’re finished with all revisions to your book.
2. Get a copy of The Writer’s Market, current edition.
3. Study and practically memorize the first section: first section only.
4. Do not copyright your book. Keep a copy of it (on floppy, hard-drive and/or as a print-out) at home, with your name and the date (I use month and year, sometimes just year) in every header on every page. Page numbers I put in the bottom right of the footer. This ‘at home’ copy IS your copyright. Don’t use that copyright symbol in the header, either.
You don’t copyright it because copyrights in one form or another are what you sell to publishers.
5. Learn to write a query and a book synopsis, as they are the first to go out.
6. A query (to agent; very helpful people– or publisher) is sent only to those who accept unsolicited queries in your field.
7. Send out more than one query a week.
8. When you get a response (which may be rejections, we all get them) that is favorable and asks for synopsis and/or a few first chapters, make sure your (brief) synopsis and the chapters are the very best you can make them.
9. Again, read The Writer’s Market. Read about copyright, about contracts, about everything to do with publication.
*It will also tell you how to find out if an agent or publisher is a reputable one.*
10. Best of luck.
Xulon Press is currently the leading publisher of Christian authors, and they do business internationally.
The problem with the Texas textbook debates is that neither side seems to support objective history. The Cons want to force-feed Christianity into every possible part of history (on the 6th day, God created AMERICA!) and the Libs want to put as much focus as possible on the “underdogs” of world history (Oppression, violence and slavery didn’t exist until White Americans invented disease.)
You could publish and sell your book on Lulu.com and keep the proceeds from it, but you would have to do your own marketing. I work full-time as a newspaper copy editor and have been doing freelance editing for more than three years. If you would like an editor to help shape up your book for publication, please feel free to drop me a line at the first link below.
lulu.com is correct. Make sure that the comp. is correct and the first pg. an easy gripping read. Publishers tend to call this a ten min. nod. as in film also if a school for film cannot get anything good in 20 min. scrap it. If a publisher wants $$ from you; no good there my friend. That would be a scam. Publishers will not pay much @ first then if you show your prolific and there is even a fairly small% of fans thats when they’ll offer a contract, this is hard b/c they’ll expect on a contract five more books lets say, could you do that? So get ready to be open too any ideas for a
book, and you cannot let girls, children interfere with your thought time. good luck. There are plenty of writers and 20X the reader.(not an actual % just for you to be savvy. talk to and listen to ppl. and they’re stories, and how you could use theyre stories w/different names of course.
Don’t pigeonhole yourself into thinking you’re advertising only for a Christian market. You want _readers_ in general to come to your blog–and those who aren’t Christian won’t stay long. By limiting it only to a specific religion, you’re missing the readers as a whole.
Advertise on secular sites as well as religious ones–unless you have the pull, say, of crosswalk dot com or of the Catholic Encyclopedia, being a niche site isn’t enough to drive traffic in this day and age. Look into Amazon partnerships, Google ads, and see if you can set up a cross-promotional scheme with Whitaker House itself. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to put up a Myspace and/or Facebook profile: Free viral advertisement.
Get a copy of Writers Market … it costs 30 dollars. Or you can use one at the library. The library should also have Literary Marketplace. There, you can search through the lists of publishers. There are Christian publishers listed. Just make sure before you send anything to anyone you do your research and check them out at Absolute Write Water Cooler Bewares and Background Forum and Preditors and Editors. You can also check with Writers Wall and Writers Weekly. All free sites.
Then when you find a publisher that suits your purposes, make sure you submit correctly – following their guidelines to the letter. Pax – C
Have you considered self-publishing?
You’ll have control over marketing, sales, promotions etc that a publisher won’t give you, and the sad truth is most traditional published books get very little promotion, so they don’t sell.
There are some links below for ideas. You’ll want to really research thoroughly and have a solid plan, especially your marketing and distribution strategy. Hint: bookstores are not the primary place you might sell the book.
Now, if you’re set on a traditional publisher, I’d cruise Amazon and the bookstores and look for titles that are vey similar to yours, then contact those publishers.
Good luck
Scott
Consult “Writer’s Market” for publishing companies which might be interested in the genre in which you’re writing, also companies which accept unsolicited manuscripts. Consider employing a literary agent to represent you, one who specializes in the type of story which you have written. Good luck!
Publisher wanted, advice on Christian angel book?
I have written a book, several actually. But the book that I think is my best, is a book about angels. It’s a Christian book, but not overtly so, not preachy in any way. I think it would offer a lot of comfort to anyone who has lost a loved one or friend, especially a child.
I have sent a lot of email query letters to places that accept electronic mail but don’t get anywhere. Does anyone have a publisher or agent sugggestion for this type of work?
