I am trying to find a literary agent best suited to my novel?
My novel is gritty & deals with many social & cultural issues. It is extremely interesting and evokes raw emotion as it gets to grips with the characters very intimately & the reader will know exactly how the central character feels whilst suffering horrific violence in the haven that is supposed to be home. Its not a book based solely on domestic violence but Juxtaposes between Mumbai & the uk to keep the narrative interesting.
Any ideas? Anybody a literary agent ?
it would make a fantastic script? Help!!!
What is the best way to market a new book?
I’ve a good friend who annoyed with the 6% offers by literary agents is hoping to self-publish his book. He has a set budget and most of this will go on the printing process leaving just a minimum for advertising. What possible means does he have to market the book? And does anyone have any decent contacts or websites for authors within the UK / London?
Thanks so much guys!

The first book you publish generally doesn’t get much money. The idea is that you get your foot in the door. Then if the book sells well, you get better offers for any books you write after.
Once established as a ‘published author’, he can then market himself much easier than going by a self published author.
He should consider selling via Amazon.com. They allow self publishing authors to see via the Net there. http://www.booksurge.com is affiliated with Amazon.com.
He should also have a web site, with a domain name (they’re only $9 or so a year), and market the domain name easily with email signatures, links on threads, etc.
I’ve added some links for self published book marketing tips I found on the Web.
is this a joke? Cheese people? Mind you it sounds like the kind of stuff that really takes off and makes an author a millionaire over night.
Or it might not.
Pick a cheese that’s not a rip off of Wallace and Gromit, you could get into trouble for that. How about the Cheddar people? Cheddar is under-rated. the forgotten cheese…
Good luck anyway.
I can’t list the names of literary agents because I went straight to my publisher. The editors there are very open to new and fresh ideas and will back you up if they love your work. They also take some time to teach new authors about the process and can introduce you to other authors who will tell you who their agents are.
Ideally the best lists are: agentquery.com; writersdigest; and sfwa.org. I like the last one because in addition to having a list of reliable agents they list publishers and agents you should avoid on their writers beware link. The science fictions and fantasy writers website also has interviews with writers, workshops and helpful writing hints.
Fangs, Fur and Backspace also deals with a blog on the business of writing.
Go to agent websites like Rachel Vater
Lori Perkins
Kristin Nelson
Deidre Knight
Colleen Lindsey
and Nathan Bransford. Not only do they talk about do’s and don’ts their own submission process is detailed for you right there or on a link to their websites.
Good luck
I have written a children’s book – It’s called ‘The Cheese People’. How do I best publish it?
The book is about The Cheese People living in Wensleydale Vale (www.cheesepeople.co.uk) it is well illustrated and is written in rhyme. There are 40 different cheese people characters and they all have different cheese personalities. The book is written to appeal to children and parents and so far there are over 20 different story lines. The first book details all about 30 of The Cheese People and tells 4 stories, but there are lots more on the way!!
Charlie Cheshire, one of the main characters also writes a News Blog (www.cheesepeople.co.uk/blog) updated every Mon to Fri) about what is going on in Wensleydale Vale. It’s a mini series and is in written and audio format.
I have written to 30 literary agents and publishers, am writing to 30 more and would really appreciate any ideas anyone may have for getting published.
Many thanks
