If you want to know how to publish a book, you are in the right place. There are many places and ways to do this. You can publish a literary book or even a reference book. The following article will tell how to publish a book in several different ways.
Step 1 You can self publish your literary book. This means that you make a connection with a small scale publishing firm. These are often what is a called print on demand. This means that they will only print as many copies as you need. This is great if you only plan to print a few hundred or less. You don’t really have to know how to publish a book for these purposes. The company will tell you exactly what to do.

As far as I know, AuthorHouse has never released figures, but in 2005 iUniverse did. IIRC, the average number of sales was 48 per title–that average pulled way up by 32,000+ copies of Amy Fisher’s book sold.
An adjusted average is probably closer to 35 or 40 copies, tops. It’s no coincidence that number parallels the number of friends, family, and/or close colleagues a person might have.
In short, pay-to-publish fiction just doesn’t sell to the general public. POD publishers generally don’t promote your book *at all* beyond offering you a page at their website–where book buyers don’t go.
What is the average amount in royalties a person makes per year, per book, published through AuthorHouse?
I’ve been told that POD publishers don’t promote your books very well. Just curious to see what others know about this.
Question about book royalties?
Just got a book published last year. Contact signed , sealed and delivered
What is a average royalty for an author?
That would be my question. Also is it normal for a book to be on over 300 web sites world wide?
Thank you and have a nice day ISBN 9781615462667
yes, I guess it is. Royalties depends how much your book sell minus the publisher’s and agents share.
How does book publishing work?
Ok, I’m a 13 year old boy living in the UK and I have a great idea for a novel. I realize of course that my writing is probably terrible and needs extensive work, but saying I could get someone interested in it, I’m a bit confused on the finer details of publishing.
I want to know:
Do you have to pay an agent weekly or something or does he just take a percentage of the profit once (IF!) the book is sold?
How much is the average percentage of royalties that the actual book writer earns? I’ve heard it’s something around 10%, but then how much does my publisher and agent get? Do they get more than me?!
How do I copyright my work, and do I pay a one-off copyright fee or does that come out of my royalties?
If i hired an illustator just for the front cover, would I have to give them a cut too, or could I just pay them once.
P.S: If you’r here to tell me I’m too young to get published, don’t bother. You’re just annoying pessimists.
What is the average amount an author usually receives for a book?
And I don’t mean like $0.25 per book SOLD, I mean like as a starter fee. I’ve heard it called a “royalty check” or an “advance”. My parents (who have no experience in publishing) say that most likely it is around $2,000.
I am getting ready to publish a book, so I was just wondering what to expect. Thank you anyone who answers!
Thank you very much everyone who answered I no longer need any answers but everyone helped out a lot! =]
After you have a completed manuscript you query agents by submitting a query letter. If the agent decides that they like your query letter they will request a partial. A partial is usually the first three chapters of the manuscript. If they like the partial they will request a full. If they like the full they will represent you.
Except for some administrative costs such as postage, copies and phone calls reputable agents don’t charge you any fees. Agents and publishers get paid from the profits from the book’s sales. Typically writers get 10% of the book’s sales and agents get 15% of that. So if you make $1 per book the agent will make 15 cents. The publisher and the printer get the rest.
The contract will include a clause that states that the publishing company will obtain a copyright in your name. I’m not sure whether or not they take the cost from your royalties or if they just pay for it themselves. In the US the copyright registration is a one time fee of $45.
The publisher will choose an illustrator or photographer for the front cover. The author almost always never has a say in this. The publisher will pay them a flat fee.
There is no age requirement to become published. Good writing trumps all.
it’s called an advance.
a royalty is what you get, based on sales, after the book is published.
most often, nothing.
in fact, there are quite a number of folks that have to pay to get their books published.
far more have to pay, than get an advance.
if you’re not already a successfully published author, or it’s not obvious to the publisher that they will be able to sell enough books to make a profit, then you will not receive any advance.
sorry.
What is the average pay an average fiction novelist can expect for your average published fiction novel?
I already know that if the book is say $20 then the author gets like $2, but I want to know the average royalty check, and then any money earned after that.
Thanks
You get about 5,000 to ten thousand dollars to start with, then about 10-15% (if you’re lucky) of whatever the book costs and, of course, how many people buy it. You get a bit more if it’s sold overseas, becomes a movie/TV series, etc.
