Most companies probably wouldn’t waste their time reading a random manuscript, otherwise they’d be spending all their time doing just that.
I’m not sure it’s really possible to do without the help of an agent. You could probably get it published at some small company, but you wouldn’t really get any exposure.
I mean it’s all possible to be done without an agent but your chances would just increase tremendously with the help of an agent. Try sending your manuscript to agents. If they like what they read they may be willing to represent you pro bono until you start receiving money from a publisher. Similar to how a lawyer may not charge you unless you win the case.

I wish there were 🙁
There are literary and art magazines in every province that will publish illustrations…sometimes. Publishing isn’t as big in Canada as it should be. Fact of the matter is, everyone sends stuff to New York 🙁
The list is pretty much never ending. I would recommend getting a Writer’s Market book. They have lists and lists of agents in them. Speaking of which, you’ll probably be required to get an agent before any publishing house will consider publishing your book. So start looking up those.
It’s probably incorporated under Canadian law, with a physical office in Ohio.
That’s the best thing I could find. Have you suscribed to any magazines lately? If not, try the email (service@rmpublishing.com) and ask them for more info.
Writers Market books (available in book stores and your local library reference section) will provide a list of Canadian publishers. If you send samples of your review/critique writeup, perhaps those published in your local paper, then even US publishers might be interested.
Bayard
JM Publishing (for motorsports)
Laureti Media Group (ethnic and niche mags)
Newsquest Media Group
Observer Standard Newspapers Ltd
Windsor Life (local people, dining, events, places)
And here’s a listing of a bunch more:

How do you know about this? Did he tell you that he was going to intentionally and knowingly lie to his doctor to take advantage of disability benefits?
There are lots of stereotypes and stigmas about mental disabilities; you say that he will be deceiving his doctor, but I find myself more inclined to think that this is your own perception, that you think he’s perfectly healthy, regardless of what his actual emotional state might be. Compound this with your racist perception that whatever minority he’s a part of is inherently immoral and dishonest…
…let me put it this way: If you have *real* information that he’s involved in misconduct, then absolutely tell HR about it. But if you do that sort of thing operating simply on your own hunches, theories, or perceptions, then that could create problems for you.
Hitting them by number:
1. You must get permission from the rights owners for any use of other people’s photographs and art. You may also need to get permission from the subjects. This is true for the US, and probably true in Canada. Check with a local IP attorney, if in doubt.
2. Find the source for your facts. They may not BE facts, but someone else’s fiction, and that would put you in a bad position. If you are quoting facts, find several sources, and include them in footnotes. If you don’t paraphrase or quote, you shouldn’t need permission. Expressions are copyrightable. Ideas and facts are not. At least in the US, and I believe by international treaty.
3. You don’t need local agents or publishers. This is a very virtual industry. For the best method to find an agent, I recommend Fern Reiss’ book Find an Agent in 30 Days, from her Publishing Game series. It does focus on the US, but the procedure will be the same, even if the exact directories, etc. will be different in Canada. Our industries are quite similar.
4. Look here: http://cb-cda.gc.ca/info/registration-e.html
5. That’s the most important part of both writing and marketing your manuscript. You need a detailed answer to that and to WHY they want to read it, what else they might be interested in, where they are often found, who is important in those groups, and how you will show them that your book is interesting.
If you haven’t answered those questions in your head, then what you have is a first draft. Now: answer the questions carefully. Think about the needs that your book might fill, that other books on that or allied subjects don’t fill. Then think about how your book could give these people either more of what they want, or make it easier for the reader to get what they want from it.
Now, re-write the book from that perspective. Then re-write your proposal incorporating that perspective, while continuing to comply with all the norms for content and format. THEN, re-write the query letter similarly.
Then find your agent, and your publisher, and help the publisher execute the plans that evolve from your original ideas and your consultation with their staff.
As for subsidy presses like Lulu.com and PublishAmerica, well, they are good for some books and for some sets of goals. But, I strongly recommend that you be aware of your goals and of the traditional terms of trade in the distribution channels you intend to use (do you want your book in bookstores, or not, for example?). Then consider competitive pricing, and the prejudice that books offered through those channels face from industry gatekeepers such as important reviewers and the buyers who purchase stock to place in bookstores.
Make sure you understand the difference between being listed in a BIP-based database, and being stocked in a bookstore.
And, never, never make a decision about your publishing path before you have read at least a half-dozen books on the alternatives you are considering. There are dozens of decent books on publishing. Don’t let the hundreds of hours of effort you have put into writing go to waste because you didn’t want to bother spending a few hours reading.
Please don’t let the fact that I’m saying things you might not want to hear deter you from listening. I really hate to see the broken hearts show up later.
Publishing a book.?
I know there have been many questions like this, but mine has more detailed questions:
1. In my book I have some pictures that are from other places and have copyrights on them, what is the exact precedure I have to take to be able to use that? Who do I have to ask for permission?
2. My book is non-fiction based on history and for some of the information with is very detailed I don’t have an exact source because I read it a long time ago and can’t find the book. Is that ok?
3. Does anyone know any good publishing companies and/or agents in Toronto?
4. What is the copyright office in Canada called?
5. Who would be intrested in reading a book about the complete history of Iran, from 3000 years ago until now?
Thanks a lot

Which publishing companies specialising in children book in either Canada or States accepts e-mail submissions?
I know someone’s about to corrupt the company he is working at…?
This might be a moral issue.
This is the story.
I know someone working as sales representative at a biggest publishing/advertisement company in Canada. (I am not working there btwy) and he is going to do false burning out story (goint see a doctoer and falsely tell him he got a mental exaustion by working so hard) to collect payment from the company more benefitially than taking unemployment insurance. Maybe for some ppl will find this isn’t a big deal but I have witnessed that one of his co-worker stole some laptops and other equipments from the company and sells these to their friends(they all know about stolen laptops)
These people are from same nationality so for them scamming, taking advantage, fraud are very common thing but my moral is telling me should I ignore this or not (I think it is very complecated to be prooven anyway) So some smart people out there pleaze give me some opinion/advise,
And this person about to get fired soon
I am wondering about the timing when this should be told to their HR. Should be after he declared or before. And my English is not as sofisticated as native speakers so I’d like to write an email something really convincing. That’s how i would need some ppl’s advise.
> Hello there Northern. Thank you for your opinion. Yes,this should be really treated not just by my own perception for specific nationality of people.
I was a girlfriend of his 2years and he told me this intentional fraud clearly. And also I have seen laptop with his friends and in my presense they were talking how his co-worker (same nationality as his) stole and sell these laptops. Believe me these dishonesty is the reason I left this man and I wasn’t a racist. And he’s perfectly fine mentally. Every week enjoying Montreal Habs game gets drunk as normal guy.
