Five Keys to Book Writing Success
Author: Melinda Copp
Writing a book isn’t hard, but you have to make a commitment and put in the work to actually make your dream of becoming an author a reality. If you’ve been searching through web sites and books for a writing strategy that ensures success, then look no further. Use the following five tips to get your book done!
1. Develop an Outline
Think of your outline like your plan. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it should give you a fairly detailed idea of what you want to write and where you want to organize everything in your book. Consider the following questions: How are you going to move the story along? What are your major scenes? What information are you going to convey? What anecdotes will you use to highlight your main points? Put all this information together in one place, and then refer to it every time you sit down to write.
2. Dedicate Time to Writing
If you want to write a book, the most manageable way to do it is write every day. Even if you just get a few paragraphs down every morning before work, you’re making steady progress—and those pages add up. So get up thirty minutes early tomorrow morning and write for as long as you can. Do this every day and your book could be finished in a matter of months.
3. Get Motivated
The rewards for writing every day take time to pay off. You have to show up and do the work, but the most appealing benefits don’t start happening until after the book is published. To keep yourself plugging along, you have to find ways to keep yourself motivated. Try treating yourself to a new book or night at the movies for every fifty pages you finish. Small rewards can keep you going until the big-picture benefits come your way.
4. Be Accountable
When it’s just you keeping track of your work, slacking off is easier. So be accountable for your writing progress to at least one person. You could keep a running page tally with a colleague or spouse—just make sure the person is tough enough to keep you writing.
5. Overcome Challenges
As fun and rewarding as writing a book can be, every author faces challenges. The successful ones know how to overcome the obstacles that occur when writing a book-length manuscript. Be aware of the resources available to you—such as books on writing, writing communities, and classes—that can help you overcome and avoid the challenges that might otherwise stop your progress altogether.
Get Your Book Done
It doesn’t matter where you are in your writing life right now. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, you can write your book. When you use these five strategies, success is definitely within your reach!

I think you need to take a stark look at your business plan, has your husband any background in nutrition and diets or has he come up with a new way to lose weight fast, I lost a stone in 4 days with the Norovirus but I’m not about to write a book about its benefits. You will be held liable for any health downturns that dieters have if they follow this special plan. Dr Aitkins had a history as a dietitian and still received criticism and law-suits, not preaching just tread carefully.

1. finish a viable manuscript
2. submit a query letter to agents
3. when you have an agent, s/he will submit your manuscript to publishers. if you are very lucky and talented, they will pick it up for publication.
4. 18 months later, your book will come out. you may get an advance check or royalty checks.
do not trust publishers who ask you to front part of the publishing cost
Go to authorhouse.com They charged me 500 dollars. That’s the most reasonable rate you’ll find.
I would drop the ones who are asking for your money. The most you should have to pay is for postage to mail your query letter or proposal package.
Pick up a copy of Writer’s Market 2008. All the publishers they list in there are legit. And the book also tells you a bunch of other information.
You could also try and get an agent first – it’s not mandatory but it can help. Some publishers accept manuscripts from unagented writers – some do not. Watch out for that.
Good luck.

The publisher absorbs the cost of publishing. There aren’t any for the agent _or_ the author. They expect to be the ones getting paid.
If you’re talking vanity publishing, no agent will be remotely interested – or needed, since vanity publishers will print any drivel they’re sent. The author pays.
You don’t want to try the whole query letter process? A real, published author doesn’t pay anything to get a book published. They GET paid.
But if you really want to go that route, so here:

Okay seriously, Don’t listen to half the answers. it was not a loan or anything. REAL PUBLISHING COSTS NO MONEY AT ALL. Publishers PAY authors to publish their books. JKR did not self publish, so it didn’t cost her any money.

A couple websites I browsed have sent an email telling me how much it will cost me for them to publish the book, I have no experience in publishing….just wondering if that’s standard. I don’t care to be scammed.
A small publishing company is planning to publish a new book. The production costs will include one-time fixed
costs (such as editing) and variable costs (such as printing). The one-time fixed costs will amount to $35,328. The variables cost will be $12 dollars a book. The publisher will sell the finish product to bookstores at a price of $24 dollars a book. How many books must the publisher print and sell so that the production costs will equal the money obtained from sales?

My husband has a really great book on nutrition almost complete but its so controversial that publishers are not willing to take the risk and upset the boat. It goes against everything the government teaches and has fantastic results….(of course im biased but it really does work!)
anyway…we want to get it out to the public asap and are now considering going alone and reaping the rewards.
Any suggestions or warnings would be welcomed!!

No it is NOT a fad diet book actually!!! WE BOTH STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH FAD DIETS, ITS ALL BOUT HEALTHY EATING, ORGANIC FOOD, GOOD FATS & RELATED TO THE STUDIES OF DR WESTON PRICE!
THATS WHY PUBLISHERS WONT TAKE IT BECAUSE ITS NOT A STANDARD CARB COUNTING BOOK!!
Yes my husband is a fitness & Nutrition lecturer and has experience in the industry.
The book will be released in ENGLAND
Once a book publisher is found, does a literary agent absorb any of the costs of publishing?
Or is that just something that is out-of-pocket for the author???
IF IT IS INDEED OUT OF POCKET, then is the publisher paid per book sold, or do they require a lump sum up front???
