Book Publishing Company
How to Select Christian Book Publishing Companies
By Andrew Collier
Getting a committed publisher who will journey with the author for the duration of a book project entails a combination of hard work and being savvy. There are plenty of Christian book publishing companies to choose from, but very few are those who will take one’s work seriously. Oftentimes, receiving rejection letters here and there is unnecessary, if only writers take the time to sit down and chart of course of action that will lead them to the right publishing company. A few of them are mentioned here.
First, authors are advised to shortlist companies that are specifically searching for authors and titles, which are a breath of fresh air. These publishers are likely open minded to consider a body of work on topics that have never been explored before. Of course, wide readership is always a factor in a publisher’s choice of a book project, and writers have a huge task of researching on subjects that are novel and universal at the same time.
Second, there are publishers that cater to one’s target readers and they can be potential partners too. Writers will do well to study up on such details regarding their prospective publishers, so that they are not crushed by rejection notices from publishers mismatched in the first place. By simply checking out the many titles publishers have released in the last two or three years can already provide helpful insights for the writer.
Third, it may also help to find the companies that concentrate on the same literary genre. There are publishing houses that focus on producing fiction for children and youths, while others are biased in favor of non-fiction literature, which includes autobiography, biography, and memoirs. Authors with finished manuscripts will benefit from this method of pre-selecting publishing companies. The key is to market the book according to their needs and criteria, which includes genre.
Fourth, those who want wider readership may go for companies with extensive distribution coverage to include the international audience. After all, writers work to be read by as many people as possible. This is especially applicable to authors who write on subjects with global appeal, touching on aspects that are humane and universal. Those with the skill and flair for stories are likely to draw readership, regardless of geography and culture.
Fifth, upstart publishers can be potentially committed partners for burgeoning writers who desire to be prolific authors someday. Such new companies are favorably disposed toward writers who are trying to create a niche in the reading market. Many of the young publishing houses are venturing into releasing e-book titles, primarily driven by advances in computers. Writers should not be limited to the printed page, since they are partakers in the present Information Age.
In short listing Christian book publishing companies, research is a vital component to the process. Nowadays, writers can simply access the Internet for the information they need on publishers. It takes time and energy to sift through websites and forums, but it can yield dividends for the writer later on.
Besides information, training courses on getting published are also available online. To be more adept in marketing books to publishing companies, writers can go through the “Book Publishing Mini-Course” that Trinity Living Today facilitates, free-of-charge.

Has anyone ever heard of a book publishing company called Creative Writing Publishing?
My sister Mrs. Melanie Nowak had told me that she had gotten her vampire book series published into hard cover from a publishing company called Creative Writing Publishing. I can’t find their website, and I wanted to know more info about the company, and what it takes to publish a book for myself and not sell it.

Looks like they (i.e., Bloomsbury Publishing PLC) *are* the parent company (independent publisher).

Try Publish and Market – http://www.publishandmarket.com
First, you need K-12 certification, and preferably classroom experience.
Then, it depends on what you would like to contribute, and on your talents. Writing and editing? Major in English and develop your writing skills.
Art? commercial illustration.
Knowledge of new media would be tremendous, combined with the K-12 certifiication.
What is the parent company of Bloomsbury book publishing company?
I am doing a project for college and I am wondering if disney owns the Bloomsbury book publishing company. Is it disney? Thanks everyone!
What is a good Christian book publishing company?
I plan to be a writer for my career, and I am in the process of writing a book that I would like to have published eventually, so I was wondering, does anyone know of any good Christian book publishing companies? The best I know of would be Thomas Nelson and any associated publishers. Does anyone know of any better ones or have any suggestions? Thanks.
Note: I don’t want any type of self-publisher. I want publishers that are good at marketing books and will make good book covers to attract consumers.

What degree is needed to work for a book publishing company, like scholastic, or random house?
I would love to work for a children’s publishing company like scholastic, but I’m not sure what degree is needed for it. I mean, there isn’t a “book publishing” degree, you know? I was thinking of double majoring in elementary education and literature? Please help, especially if you work for one of these places please give advice!!
You did yourself a huge favor. Dorrance is a dreadful publisher — yes, they are “vanity,” and will charge you _thousands_ of dollars — to print up a bunch of books that you are now stuck with trying to sell. Please do not deal with them.
If you want to self-publish, I would suggest lulu.com. I’ve published a bunch of books through them, and they do a decent job. They are a book _printer_ so do not buy their obscenely overpriced “packages” in which they promise to edit etc your book. You don’t need them.Nobody does.
Here’s how to publish your book at lulu.com:
There are other sites that offer self-publishing, but all the ones I have looked at require you to buy 25 or more books — which can run up into money! At Lulu, you don’t have to pay them a cent unless and until you want a copy of your book. Warning: Do NOT be taken in by their offers of wonderful “packages” which will make your book ever so much better (so they say). These “packages” in some cases cost around $1000. Wow! You don’t need _that_much help. Nobody does.
Here’s what you do: Make a good copy of your book text. As errorless as humanly possible. Don’t forget page numbers and other such tiny details.
Now, make a pdf of your copy. That is what you will want to upload to Lulu. As to covers, Lulu has a bunch which you can use, for free. Or else you can create your own cover, or get someone you know who is good at art to do it for you. (Be sure to acknowledge such a person in your book.)
Okay, after you have uploaded your text, then upload your covers — front and back.
That is about all there is to it.
Suggestion: Lulu invites you to “test drive” them. This is a good idea. Upload something — it doesn’t have to be your book — just to see how it is going to work. This won’t cost you anything unless you want to buy one copy of it.
Unless your book is pushing 500 pages, it should cost you under $10 to buy a copy.
Good luck!
Will this book publishing company give me a second chance, or am I out of luck?
I tried to publish a book that I was working on a while back, and I missed my deadline, and forgot to return a bunch of calls. The place was the Dorrance Book Publishing Company. I really want to try to publish another thing…will they just throw it away? I know they probably would anyway, but what do you think?
