Author Literary Agents Uk
Why authors are just like Olympic athletes
If you are an author, have you ever wondered what you have in common with Olympic athletes?
I’ve never skied in my life. Quite frankly, the weather in the UK is rubbish, and once September arrives, I count down the days until mid to late March when we are promised at least a little bit of sunshine and warmth. I have an extreme dislike of cold weather, but watching the winter Olympics in Vancouver, coupled with enjoying the gorgeous scenery in Sky HD, has inspired me to want to be the next British skeleton champion. The speed, the exhilaration, the excitement, and even the wait as you take your place on the starting line at the sliding centre is just like writing a novel. Our experiences are not much different – both the athlete and the author have desires to be the best at their game and nothing stops them in the quest for that number one position.

No offence, but if you want to publish a book in English, you need to be able to write better English than that…
How to get a literary agent in the uk?
Basically what the question asks!
For my novel, as I get more in to researching I am finding that most publishers prefer authors to have a agent than just sending it off to publishing houses but how does one come across a agent?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance xxx
How successful can i publish my book? Who can help me to find a trust worth literary agent in UK or USA?
my manuscript is all complete. i once found an agent down town new york but what could she do, famous as she is she asked for a critique payment. a lot of money. the other three agents accepted it as quite publishable and were ready to process it but when i told them i was not an American or British they changed their mind saying they had no lawyers to process a publication of an international writer. it seems my book project is publishable. i want it published in UK or USA where people are civilized and well reading than here in my tiny country. after all the novel is a religious critique in the counteract of such writers as Nikos Kazantzakis’ The Last Temptations, Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code, and The holy blood, holy grail. so it makes a theme for humanity rather than territorial confines. please help me details of a number of good literary agents who possibly can process for an international author. yet who can go along religious mind and spirituality controversy.
I’m in the same situation. Here’s what I did (though it hasn’t worked yet, so your mileage may vary).
Beware of lists of agents that you find on the Internet. It’s difficult to know how trustworthy the person who put them together is. Such lists could be full of scammers who’ll take lots of money from you and do nothing in return. Any agent who requests an upfront fee is a fraud. A real agent takes a percentage of your income from writing as his commission, so if he doesn’t sell your book, he doesn’t get paid. Beware also of any agent who advertises. Real agents don’t need to advertise, beyond being listed in trade directories. They already have more submissions coming in than they know what to do with.
Get hold of a recent edition of The Writer’s and Artist’s Yearbook (about £20, or you may be able to get it from a library). They have a listing of literary agents in the UK. Go through this list and pick out all the ones who represent the genre that you’re writing (or all the ones who don’t say they don’t represent it).
Also find out who represented recent debut novels in your genre. Sometimes the acknowledgements in the book will tell you who this is, or the author’s website, or a Google search for the author’s name plus “agent”.
Check the submission guidelines on the agent’s website, and whether they’re currently taking on new clients. Most agents in the UK ask you to send the first three chapters and a synopsis of the complete book. An enlightened few accept submissions by email. Assume that they don’t, unless they say they do.
Send out your queries a few at a time, rather than all at once. That way, if any of them reject you with anything more helpful than a plain “no”, you can use that to improve the next batch. Chances are the first rejections you get will be form ones – the same response is sent to almost everybody, so you can’t learn anything specific from it.
Good luck!
how to get any literary agent to represent my book to big publishers in New York and sell to Hollywood?
I have self published one children’s book in USA and UK in 2003. After published, it had received more than 30 great testimonials from famous writers and author in the US. In that case, I think my book has some valuable information so that I hope to sell to big publishers in New York. However, those publisher refuse to accept my work since they need some literary agents to show them my work. So my question is how to find literary agent to represent my work to big publisher in New York and sell to Hollywood? Some writer said it is classical and would be Disney picture. Moreover, my book has entered Denmark Palace recently and is collected by Denmark Queen herself after so many people like it. Could you please give me some advice to get one great literary agent in USA and UK with thanks?
Buy the Writer’s Guide for this year, there is great information in it.
Harry Potter is a UK novel, in Bloomsbury and Scholastic publishing, Scholastic is an American publisher
If they let a British author in American publishing, they’ll let you in UK publishing!
What is the best way to market a new book?
I’ve a good friend who annoyed with the 6% offers by literary agents is hoping to self-publish his book. He has a set budget and most of this will go on the printing process leaving just a minimum for advertising. What possible means does he have to market the book? And does anyone have any decent contacts or websites for authors within the UK / London?
Thanks so much guys!

The first book you publish generally doesn’t get much money. The idea is that you get your foot in the door. Then if the book sells well, you get better offers for any books you write after.
Once established as a ‘published author’, he can then market himself much easier than going by a self published author.
He should consider selling via Amazon.com. They allow self publishing authors to see via the Net there. http://www.booksurge.com is affiliated with Amazon.com.
He should also have a web site, with a domain name (they’re only $9 or so a year), and market the domain name easily with email signatures, links on threads, etc.
I’ve added some links for self published book marketing tips I found on the Web.
