Writing An Essay In 6 Easy Steps
Author: Martha Liu
When it comes to writing, many people over think what it is that they have to do, freeze up, blank out, and end up writing nothing.
But, if you possess a modest understanding of the English language, writing a good and useful essay is easy if you just follow a few simple guidelines.
An essay, like a novel, a thesis, a textbook, and so on has a certain structure to it. But the structure is not set in stone. In fact, there are more than a few essay forms that you can take advantage of. For the beginning writer, however, the basic steps of writing an essay consists of 6 separate actions.
1) Choose your topic
Professional writers are always saying “write what you know.” While many writers make a great living researching topics that they know little about and writing essays and articles on them, for the beginning writer, writing about what you know is good advice. It’s one less step that you have to worry about. So choose a subject that interests you personally and break it down into a smaller topic, something that you can fully write about in an essay length piece of writing.
2) Prepare a short outline for your topic.
Although the outline doesn’t have to be on paper, if you’re just beginning to write, putting the outline on paper or in your computer can help you to organize your thoughts and focus on what you want to say.
3) Write the Introduction
The introduction should be relatively short and should focus on what you plan to prove or accomplish with your essay. Of course, this pre-supposes that you’ve answered the question for yourself. If you ask yourself the question, “Why am I writing this topic?” and you fail to come up with an interesting and convincing reason, you’ve likely chosen the wrong topic and should think about changing it.
4) Write the body using your outline as a guide
If you’ve written an outline, this should be easy. Simply write one paragraph for each point in your outline. If you know your subject well, the paragraphs should almost write themselves. Don’t focus too much on grammar or style as you are writing. Simply try to get your thoughts down on paper in a coherent manner.
5) Write your summary
Write a paragraph summarizing all of the points what you’ve just written about.
6) Edit and re-write your essay
Many writers would call this the most important part of the writing process. You’ve got your initial thoughts on paper, now you simply have to improve them. This is where you spell check, grammar check, finalize your paragraph transitions, and recheck the facts presented in your essay. It’s not unusual for professional writers to re-write three, four, or more times. In fact, many say that the difference between a good writer and a great writer is the amount of effort put into re-writing.
Even if you have no natural talent for writing, by following the above steps you can easily put together an essay presentable enough for almost any purpose.

Contact The Collector’s Authority on SW Military, they should be able to answer that for you. Good luck.
Always check first with the criteria the houses have. Sending out unsolicited manuscripts can get the book tossed. There are some out there that will accept them, but you have to know which ones first, just don’t send it out “blind”. Get a copy or check out, a copy of “Writers Marketplace.” This is usually available at te local library and will have loads of places to check into.
Remember…publishing an unpublished writer is a gamble and bigger houses usually have more resources to do so, more then a smaller one. But then again, some smaller houses build their reputation on doing just that, putting out unknowns.
It takes lots of research to find the exacet place to offer it. Here is a link on agents that I do have.

is this the one you wanted?
Actually, it’s very hard. You’ll recieve a lot of rejection before you get your story published, and even then, there’s not a 100% chance you’ll be a best seller.
Unless you use a vanity publisher, the publisher usually pays the author. The only person you pay (I think) is your agent.
But, you are most certainly not an idiot for wondering.
Get an agent. You are more likely to have success with the book.
Well, assuming your book is good, you might want to start by finding an agent. You can publish without an agent, but it’s much harder because editors are much more likely to take seriously a manuscript that is already recommended by a professional. Also a lot of publishing companies don’t accept manuscript submissions that are unsolicited manuscripts, or ones that don’t have an agent to back it up.
An agent is someone who knows editors in publishing companies and knows what different editors are looking for and typically lives in New York. In order to get an agent you need to have a finished manuscript to show them. Agents require something called a query letter, which is kind of like a resume. You can look up on google how to write one. A great book to help you find agents to send your query letters to is Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook 2010.
It really helps your odds of getting an agent to take you on if you have some professional experience, like having been published in some place like a magazine. If an agent decides to take you on (which don’t get upset if you get rejected because it’s quite risky for agents to take on new authors) then they will go about finding a publishing company for your story, although it could still get rejected by publishers. Basically, its a long, hard process to publish a book, and most authors (even J.K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer) have faced several rejections before an acceptance.
So, yeah, if you are REALLY serious about publishing your book then, fwi, you’re going to face A LOT of rejection because even great authors faced rejection before getting published. Until the time comes (if it does come) for you to be published keep writing and improving and read a lot. And all of those websites are completely right. It’s anything but easy to get a book published. Another option is to go with self-publishing, which is where, instead of you getting paid for your book, you pay a publishing company to publish a certain number of copies of your book. Usually, though, the only people who read self-published books are the friends and family of the author because bookstores don’t sell them.
It’s easy to become an author–if you can write a book. But publishing it…? That’s a horse of another color.
Getting published is a lot harder today than it was 15 years ago. Agents and publishers were a lot more open to new writers.
These days, they aren’t. They’ve closed the doors on people like you and me–even though I’ve been writing for close to 25 years now.
But college? You don’t need college to become a good writer. For that, you need a solid grasp on English, grammar and comprehension, solid writing skills, and read a ton of books. (To help broaden your word vocabulary.)
I think you should look up an agent in the children’s writing section. Trust me, I know a ton of people who look for publishers when they want to publish a book, but that could take years, seeing as though most publishers don’t accept unsolicited queries. One more thing, NEVER self-publish, I read about a lady who spent thousands of dollars marketing her book and now she’s in danger of loosing her house.
Believe in yourself and believe in your book. It’s fun that you get to see your book published with the same expertise and professionalism as the regular books that you see in bookstores. Don’t sell yourself short. The hardest part is making the first move. The rest – you can’t go wrong.
You have 2 options
1. Find an existing publisher who will pay you to publish it. This requires you to submit your manuscript to various publishers according to their guidelines. (Their guidelines are always posted online.) It is easier to be accepted by Electronic publishers.
2. Publish it yourself. If you publish it yourself, don’t go to a vanity publisher. Go to a POD publisher (print on demand) publisher like Lightning source:
http://www.lightningsource.com
Lightning Source is a legitimate press who is affiliated with Ingram. Your books can be ordered on Amazon.com and from bookstores if you publish through them.
Bear in mind that if you go through a pod publisher, you might want to hire a professional editor to make sure your book is formatted perfectly.
It will cost you money to use a pod publisher, but it is money that goes directly toward publication. Don’t confuse a pod publisher with a vanity press.
A vanity press will charge fees to publish your book, but they are essentially a scam whose main goal is to milk your desire to be a published author, and make money off of you.
Listed below is an article on vanity publishers:

What is a good, easy-to-use program for self-publishing a book?
I want to put together a textbook, but have no real design skills or experience. I don’t have a lot of time to invest in learning a design program. I’d like to find one that is fairly easy to learn as I go and will look good. I should mention that images are not a big concern; it will be mainly text with maybe a few images. Any tips on where to download suggested programs would also be appreciated. Thanks.
