How To Make Money With This Stock Photography Business Plan
Author: Dan Feildman
A stock photography business is a method to earn more money in the business of photography. Stock photographs are a collection of photos which are licensed for use in various purposes. These are used by people like book publishers, graphic artists, advertisers, etc to add creativity to their works. So due to the rising demand of such photos, selling stock photos have become a business by itself.
When you intend to start a stock photography business and sell stock photos to earn money, you must keep in mind certain things. Always choose and filter the photos you intend to keep in your list. In a stock photography business, more often quality is not as important as conveying the idea. People opt for stock photography, either when they do not have the time to go for a photo shoot or they are not able to acquire the required photo. So select and keep photos which are capable of conveying ideas across.
If you are selling your photos to a stock photo agency, you will have to comply with their terms and upload the photos in the specified formats and resolutions. Or if you are keeping the stock photos by your self, always go for a format and resolution which would suit the requirements of the clients.
Stock photography must not have any copyright or watermarks on it. These photos are intended for sale and reuse. So there is not point in putting a copyright mark on it. And if you are hosting your photos on a web site, be sure to use the apt keywords and tags so that search engines find you easily. You can refer the leading stock photo hosting web sites like ShutterStock, Fotolia, and so on for ideas on putting keywords and organizing the stock photos.
While, if you intend to sell your stock photos to a stock photo agency or web site that is also good. By doing so, you comply with the agency’s terms and either you will be paid a handsome amount for the pictures or each time somebody downloads your photograph, you get a percentage specified. This way, stock photos are means of generating income over and over again.
You can also take orders for producing stock photographs. The agencies will give you topics on which you need to take photos. This is a more effective way of selling stock photography. In the conventional method, the agency takes only selected photos out of the hundreds or thousands you submit. But when you capture photos based on the topic they give, the possibility that majority of the photos get selected is high.
Microstock is the latest form of a stock photography business and the photos are licensed for much lower fees. The sales of these kinds of photos are also on the increase. Microstock photos get sold in bulk and hence the photographer gets a fair enough amount with the sale. Though the amount per download is less compared to the common stock photos, the sale of Microstock is more. This ensures that the photographers get more money from selling Microstock photos.Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/entrepreneurship-articles/how-to-make-money-with-this-stock-photography-business-plan-1419981.html

Why would you care where the publisher is located? If you wish to submit a project for publication, it helps to be in the same country, but that is the only limit I would set.
If you are looking for books to buy, try searching through any one of the online services by subject and keyword. (Think Amazon.com, etc.)
Publishing companies don’t always require their employees to be within commuting distance anymore, either. E-commuting works just fine for many people in the industry.
If you must, for some reason, find publishing companies in NJ, I suggest that you go to a library with an electronic edition of the Literary Marketplace. Search by state, and by type of book published. That should get you a relatively small list.
Do note, however, that many large publishers (Simon & Schuster, for example) have huge facilities in NJ, but official addresses in NYC. So, even there, it depends upon why you are asking, whether or not a particular operation will fit your requirements.

These folks will print, bind, advertise, sell and ship your book for you – and send you a check for every copy sold. You can also do your own publicity to let people know about your book, and where to go to buy it.
Here is a list of what they can publish and distribute on your behalf:
Paperback Books
Hardcover Books
Photo Books
Calendars
Brochures
Dissertations
Yearbooks
Music Downloads
File Downloads
E-books
Images
CDs
DVDs
Good luck!
PS
I’m not affiliated with Lulu in any way, I just like the concept of print on demand.
You definitely want a coated stock for the best reproduction. There are gloss stocks and dull stocks. Most people do photo on gloss stocks, but dull paper is easier to read, and it might be able to give you a different mood. Another option is printing on a dull stock and putting a gloss varnish over the photos to really make them pop out on the page.
The better the sheet, the more it costs. Coated stocks come in grades. Go no cheaper than a #3 grade. Actually, you can get a good #2 sheet for only a little more. #1 sheets are better and more expensive, and the top of the line is a premium. It may be overkill.
I work for a high quality printer, and most of our clients are happy with #2 sheets.
Ask the publisher to send you samples of your options. They can get it through the printer or paper company. Paper companies are happy to comply with requests.
Go to your library or book store and get the latest edition of Photographer’s Market. This book will list all sorts of places where you can sell your photographs, including publishers of books. It alsoi lists agents who work with photographers.
I don’t know much about photography, but I am familiar with their sister publication Writer’s Market and believe that any beginning writer who tries to get along without a copy of it is going to have more trouble than he would like. Get Photographer’s Market and good luck.
moolicious,
You never go straight to a publisher unless they have a website or other instructions that say they take unsolicited manuscripts. Your hard work will go right into what they call a ‘slush pile.’ You don’t want that.
Get yourself a copy of Writer’s Market 2008. In there you’ll find a list of literary agents who take the genre your are writing in. There are lit agents who also take query letters via email.
Get yourself a book on writing query letters. You’ll need to format it properly and make it look professional. It should never be more than 1-1/2 pages long. Two max. It should also be free of any type of errors. This is an automatic reject before you even get started.
It sure sounds to me like you’ve done some of this before, due to the mentioning of photography. You sound pretty knowledgeable in some of these areas.
Once you’ve interested a literary agent with your work and he/she finds a publisher for you, they will take care of the rest. Photo’s and all. I’m almost positive. Plus, the lit will be in contact with you throughout the process.
I wish you a world of luck….

ask friends, family, associates, everyone you know to refer you, let you take pictures of you, anything you can. Your portfolio is important, but you have to have pictures to put in your portfolio. My brother started taking senior pictures of his friends and now is getting ready to graduate from photog school and has already done a wedding and has a job lined up after school….just take pictures, man….and be ready to accept anything!
lulu.com is a free publishing site. You should check it out. (:
Poetry is a whole different story than fiction. There are paying poetry publishers, but very few. Poetry, even brilliant poetry, simply doesn’t sell well, and publishers prefer not to lose money. Go figure.
That’s why there’s no shame for the poet who self-publishes. Many have a small number of chapbooks, and sell them when they give readings, attend workshops, or otherwise get their poetry out there. Chain bookstores will not carry self-published work, including chapbooks or poetry in other bindings, but local bookstores, coffee houses, and other poet-friendly places might.
You might want to join AbsoluteWrite (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/index.php?referrerid=88 ) and inquire at its busy poetry board, where a number of the regulars are published, but I suspect the news will be what I’ve just said.
I would think that original photography might enhance a certain kind of poem, but that it will add to the cost of self-publishing, if in the end you go that route.
I’m currently a photography student and I want to start working, but I don’t now where to begin? what do I do?
I would prefer part-time for now, would like to work for a book publisher, newspaper, magazine, some good company, etc. or do portraits and weddings. I’ve tried calling wedding/photography studios and had no luck. Honestly, I don’t have much work experience, that’s probably why, but I need to start somewhere, I want to find people who will give me a chance and teach me the trade along the way.
where can I find photography book publishers listings in nj?
art book publishers in nj
How can I get my photography published in book form?
And, if anyone knows of specific publishers they would advise contacting, please do list them. I would love to get a book of my photos published but have no clue where to start such an endeavor. Thanks to anyone willing to offer help.
Anyone know a good gift book publisher or literary agent?
Should i get an agent or go straight to a publisher? Who is the best in the industry for gift books? Also, i am looking fr artwork for it. Should i use stock photography? It sounds expensive, any alternative ideas? Anyone who knows about this please fill me in. I am doing research but coming to a dead end when looking specifically for gift book info. Any help would be appreciated!
about the quality of paper in publishing a book on photography?
I am on my way to publish a book on creative photography. My publisher has asked me about the designs and quality and integrity of the book but I do not have much knowledge about it. However, this book will have large colored photos on each page and it should look like an internationally distributable book with high page quality and cover, if not like a cheap handout with mediocre info in it. Please help me out, will highly appreciate it… !
ps: if possible, i would also want to know the printing cost of each copy.. although it might be subjective but anyway…
thanks in advance !!
Where can I find a photography book collecting forum?
Or a message board, web site that discusses collectible photography books, William Eggleston, Stephen Shore, Garry Winogrand, Alec Soth etc. Edition size, do most publishers release extra printings, editions etc.
Thanks
What is the name of the photography book…?
that lists all the different names of books, magazines publishers etc..and how to contact them to publish your photographs?
Are there publishers that will take a first time author’s submission?
I am in the process of typing up my manuscript, for a book of poetry. I have two published authors that have offered to write forwards for the book. Where can i find a list of publishers (not online publishers)that will accept manuscripts from a first time author, preferably publishers that actually pay?
Is it possible to use original photography in the book, to enhance the poetry? thanks for any suggestions…
Where can I find a photo book publisher/agent?
If you have any specific names of companies or websites where I can get my book of photography published, please let me know! I am not interested in self publishing…I really want to be able to work with an agent, but don’t know what companies are out there. I have used google frequently for this, found some sites, but not many.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
How would I go about publishing a photography-like book?
I have an idea for a book, and I would love to make it happen. It’s pretty simple, and the majority would be photographs I would take- focusing less on the photography itself than on the actual subjects.
For comparison’s sake, my idea is a little bit postsecret-esque.
So anyway. My question is how I would go about getting this published, seeing that I actually go through with it. Would I try to meet with a publisher first and tell them my ideas? I really have no idea how any of this works. Any help or information is appreciated.
Thank you 🙂
