Experience Higher Efficiency & Faster Delivery Using Digital Publishing Services
Author: ajax
With heightened competition in the industry and a recent move toward e-Books, publishers are struggling to get content to market faster. Also, the Internet has enabled the creation of large amounts of content that needs to be promptly converted into media rich content and published at just the right time.
There are a number of content transformation providers who cater to this growing segment of publishing, with digitization at the core of their service offerings.
Digitization comprises of eBook creation, fast publishing, digital archives, Dynamic Content Management (DCM), rapid content conversion and online content quality analysis (QA).
Since digitization of content involves many intricate and elaborate processes, it is a challenge for publishing houses to digitize content in-house. The most efficient approach is to pass content to experts who provide digital publishing services, thereby reducing processing costs and increasing overall throughput.
The following are the advantages of using professional digital publishing solutions:
1.e-Books: Publishes e-Book content in a consistent and reusable standard format ensuring that the content can be quickly and easily repurposed for any delivery mechanism (print or online), revealing new revenue streams for publishers.
2.Fast Publishing: Provides a full-range of editorial, composition and conversion services for getting content to market faster
3. Digital Archives: Provides flexible digital formats of legacy content assets
4.Online Content QA: Enables QA support throughout the year and shortens the cycle time
5.Dynamic Content Management (DCM): Covers the entire process of collecting, mining, analyzing and merging large, dynamic volumes of content into manageable and useful information sets
6.Content Production Optimization: Optimizes content workflows to shorten cycle time and end product delivery

You go Maryn!! Way to post!! Keep it up! Fifty stars for that answer!!
There are many starred answers to the self publishing issue on my profile. You should read and study them.
Self publishing is a financial black hole. It will end up costing you literally thousands of dollars to print and promote the book and you will be lucky if you sell books to all of your friends and family. The average self published book sells under 100 copies. Is that what you want for your book?
I read a story recently of a woman who refinanced her house and dumped over 60 thousand dollars into the publishing of a children’s book. She has earned back less than 10@ of her investment and is about to lose her house. Still interested in self publishing? I am not. Your books will never make it to the shelves of stores and that, my friend, is where the action is for selling books. You will have to pay for advertising and a marketing plan and even then, expect to sell very few books. I have contacted Ingram – America’s largest book distributor – and checked on self published books sales quite often. I have seen books that sold as little as THREE copies. How is that for a return on your investment of your time and talent? Pathetic just about covers it.
As for the agent issue – the answer is a simple one. If you want to reach major publishers, you need an A List agent. A list publishers only deal with A list agents. If you want to deal with smaller publishers, get a copy of Writers Market and search for some in your genre. Just make sure you check out any publisher, editor or agent through the standard channels – Absolute Write Water Cooler’s Bewares and Background Checks, Preditors and Editors, Anne Crispin’s site, Writers Wall etc. There are many who are scams, and many who are simply not legit and many who are near bankruptcy or in litigation with angry authors. Be careful.
My best advice is this. If you believe in yourself and in your book you owe it to yourself to spend at least twice as long trying to publish traditionally as you did writing. If you self publish, do not plan on using that as a reference and referring to yourself as a “published author” because agents and publishers will laugh and consider you amateur. You can self publish anything you want as long as your check clears. You could publish the Chinatown phone book if you could afford to.
Go to my profile and skim through the starred answers. Many here print out the ones that have good information so they can study it. It is a good place to start. Pax – C
Are you talking about paying for professional editing services? For a quality job by someone who knows what they’re doing, you can expect to pay at least $25 for every 10 double-spaced Courier 12 pages. That’s going to add up real fast for such a long novel. Depending on its genre, the length may be much longer than is marketable as a first novel, too, so proper editing is going to trim it by at least a third unless it’s epic fantasy.
Are you talking about paying to publish? The “winner” is probably lulu.com, which doesn’t mislead writers about what they’re getting for their money.
Format is easy, and among the first things you should do for yourself. See http://www.writerswrite.com/journal/dec98/shunn.htm for details and follow it to the letter.
Next, spell check and grammar check. No point in paying someone to do what’s so easy to do yourself.
If I were you, I’d consider joining a good writing site and learning how to do my own editing. A good site is AbsoluteWrite.com/forums, and a good guide is “Self-Editing for Fiction Writers” by Browne and King.
I use it to publish fray.com and it’s been great. Of course, I also work on MagCloud as a consultant, so I’m biased. But you should give it a try!
Lulu.com is a free service for writers to use–writers who don’t wish to go the traditional publishing route and writers who do not wish to pay exceedingly high amounts of cash to see their book in print. If you read their FAQ, you are instantly and clearly made aware that if you use their free services, you are responsible for all marketing. What do you expect for FREE?
However, if you wish to have the book available via other avenues, then there are a couple different marketing and promotional packages you can purchase.
Unless you purchase one of those packages, all you’ll ever pay is the bottom line book price and shipping. Again, what do you expect from a FREE service?
Anytime you publish your work on your own, you run the risk of low sales and the burden of promoting it yourself.
Lulu.com’s final finished product is high quality.
You’ll have to decide for yourself if this is the route you want to take. What will you lose? Some of your time? In the end, you buy one book for $7 and you see for yourself if the quality is any good.
Be your own person. Do your own research. Make your own decision. That way, you can go in an informed writer and come out with a finished book, or better for the experience.
Good luck to you. :o)
Dusty is correct in that we do not offer “royalities,” as that is what you receive when you are being paid for the right to publish your work. You are paying for the publication and you receive “earnings.” Your contract should detail our obligation to you in terms of percentages of earnings due to you for the sale of each title. And of course as long as we have the rights to sell your book for you, you will receive earnings. I encourage you to contact your customer service representative to get your questions answered more thoroughly. (I don’t want to quote contracts when I don’t have your agreement in front of me.) But we most certainly want to make sure you understand everything we’re going to do for you. Thanks for your question.
I would check out http://www.lulu.com and http://www.flippies.com.
Good luck!
Acacia House is a literary agency. Preditors & Editors has nothing on them except their address in Brantford, Ontario. They do not appear to have a linked website. They’re neither recommended nor negatively noted at P&E.
AbsoluteWrite had members who found a few books when someone posed this question there. See the thread at http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150842&highlight=acacia+house
Be aware there’s an Acacia House Publishing Services in Phoenix, Arizona which is a vanity press, where the writers pay to have someone put their work in book form. I can’t tell who owns it, but it’s such a long way from Ontario that it’s probably not connected.
f you are looking for self-publishing companies to publish your scrollI know of a few companies that practically holds court to everything a book needs from getting you your copyright, size preferences, book cover design customization, layout consultation, copyediting and even marketing – at affordable costs.
Most self-publishing companies have programs that costs about $250 to $12999 and is highly dependent on the kind of services that you will be getting which is why it is very significant to carefully map out your book’s budget as early as now.
Publishing companies now have all the resources to publish books with the same productivity and efficacy as that of regular black and white books. Considering the fact that most books are in full color, you should choose a publishing company whose book’s are of the highest quality, bar none.
Xlibris Publishing is one of those companies who truly boasts of their book’s top quality as your book is printed on acid-free 50lb library-edition paper. That alone can give your book a longer shelf life and durable pages.
Self-publishing entirely means that you get to retain full control of your book’s production and that it gives you the option to publish your work and claim authority of the photos that you have chosen to be published.
Publishing is synonymous to getting that copyright for protecting your book which is why it is highly important to publish it.
You can get free information sent to your mail here and even try to check the quality of their brochure because it is the same as how they publish books. The cost to publish is also listed in detail and in depth.
The guys at http://websitehostingbycreation.com/ are really helpful

What are some good publishing services and editing services.?
I wrote a book that is 156,000 words long and I need help editing it. It’s going very slowly and it’s not even in it’s right format yet. (It used to be a fanfiction but people told me I should try to publish it)
I already know how to edit it and I have started but I’m no where near being anywhere close to be being done. Between volunteering, trying to get a job, keeping my grades up in school to the high honor roll, and still trying to have a normal teenage life that doesn’t give me a lot of time. Also if anyone on this site wants to edit it, if they’ve edited before, they can.
Has anyone used Lulu.com for publishing services and are they any good?
Is it better to go with a traditional publishing service or do you really need a publishing agent first?
